Macedo, Maxwell top Old Man Hill to go 1-2 in Superbowl Slalom

Up-and-coming racing stars Michel Macedo and Trevor Maxwell ripped through the gates on Pucci to finish first and second in the Super Bowl Slalom Sunday, narrowly beating out the legendary Master racer Timothy Hill.

The 50-year-old Hill, a physician from Bend, is famous in racing circles for competing against, and beating, the hottest young racers on the Pacific Northwest Ski Association circuit. He was named Master Skier of the Year in 2007 by Ski Racing Magazine and has won countless races, including quite a few against Macedo, Maxwell and the other young bucks of the Mount Hood racing scene.

But on Sunday youth caught up to and passed experience, as Macedo and Maxwell of the Cascade Winter Sports Club finished 1-2 in one of two PNSA slaloms held in slushy spring-like conditions. Hill finished in a very close third place, followed by Nathan Gunesch of the host club Mount Hood Academy.

Macedo is a Brizilian citizen with a legitimate chance of competing in the Olympics in 2018 (his older brother Tobias is an alternate for Sochi).

U.S. Ski Team hopeful Trevor Maxwell (pictured below racing on Sunday) is a junior at West Linn and Oregon's defending overall state champ in high school racing. He won his Three Rivers League slalom race at Meadows Saturday night by 2.75 seconds.

That was just one of two men's races held on Pucci Sunday, as racing clubs and high school teams continue to work creatively with Mount Hood resorts to squeeze in competitions in a low-snow year. In the other men's race, the top four finishers were the same, but Hill came out on top, followed by Macedo, Maxwell and Gunesch.
