The world of junior ski racing is very exciting. Whether you've joined our program or are looking for a program at Mount Hood, being actively involved in a competitive ski program will elevate an athlete self-esteem, confidence, and provide them with lifelong skills will help create successful individual.  One of our missions at Cascade Winter Sports Club (CWSC) is to elevate the ability level of a skier while enabling families to comfortably compete at a level that is appropriate for each athlete’s ability, time commitments, and family budget.

For many families, joining our program will be the first experience outside of recreational skiing and a likely step toward mastering a sport that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment. The natural first impression may be intimidating for both parents and athletes with no knowledge of ski racing. It is our hope that this guide will shed some light on the basics of our program and answer questions that may come up from time to time.

Why should you consider enrolling your athlete with CWSC?

Our program delivers all of our athlete’s Olympic level coaching, regardless of age, experience or ability.  We are committed to the success of each individual and teach skills that will help make your athlete the most technically proficient skier possible throughout his or her skiing life.

•Athletes involved with a high level Alpine Racing Program generally exceed standard academic expectations.

•We are committed to creating a partnership with each athlete to help them successfully reach their goals and establish a path to living life with discipline, integrity and courage.

•As a member of the race team, the athlete will form great friendships with other athletes from the Northwest and beyond.  One only need to watch our race team training to see how well the athletes get along as they motivate each other to their respective highest levels of accomplishment.

•Athletes learn to compete as an individual while being supported by team mates and a great coaching staff.  They will encounter highs and lows and learn how to deal with the disappointment and joy that racing can bring.  Each athlete learns that racing involves competition that requires one to be prepared and present in order to be successful.

•We encourage parents to get involved and participate with their athletes training.  We welcome the active involvement of parents during training.  It helps solidify the culture of community we’ve created.

•Our program provides athletes; transportation, scholarship opportunities, leadership training and coaching in all aspects of life to maximize personal and athletic potential.  We are skilled in the areas of on and off-snow coaching, elite athlete management, professional life coaching, nutritional management, sports psychology and leadership education.

We are committed to developing a program that offers more of what families expect in early childhood development with a focus on the whole person and not just the athlete.

Please feel free to contact our Program Director, Paul Tollefson for inquiries into how we may best serve your athlete.
